How to spot a fake Gucci Peggy bag?
The Peggy handbag (#170206) is one of the more popular Gucci bags along with the Pelham. Since it was so popular there are counterfeit copies everywhere.
The Peggy has double braided leather straps. Drawstring top closure with genuine bamboo detail & leather tassels.
5 light gold feet on the bottom of the bag. (Some fakes come with only 4 feet)
The Peggy bag came in two sizes (medium & large). The large is large enough to fit a laptop.
The medium Peggy mrsp= $1295.00+ Tax and dimensions are: ~14"(L) x 10"(H) x 4"
Large Peggy mrsp=$1428.00+Tax and dimensions are:~17.3" (L) x 11.8" (H) x 4.8"
Most of the counterfeit Large Peggy bags are much smaller than the authentic with the depth being only 3" and the authentic is 4.8"
The counterfeit handbags will often be advertised as gently used or "a gift"to hide the fact that there are no tags.
Many of the counterfeit Gucci manufactures offer a fake "look-alike" Gucci dust bag and gift sack. In a photo it is sometimes hard to tell the difference, but in person it is an obvious cheap imitation. Gucci gift sack, box and paperwork including a receipt can all be purchased on numerous websites that sell counterfeit designer bags. The one thing they do not come with is a price tag. The product number on the receipt should match the product number on the price tag.
The "new" Gucci dust bags (as of 2007) are a heavy brown cotton material with a white interior. This has taken the place of the brown silk dust bag. The dust bag has a top brown drawstring cord and Gucci is printed in large letters on the front in gold. There should be an interior sewn in tag which will say Gucci made in Italy on the front and 100% cotton on the reverse side of the tag with washing instruction photos and a serial number. You will sometimes see a seller who is selling obvious counterfeits to the trained eye, but yet has good feedback. This is usually because the seller has blackmailed the buyer into not leaving a negative feedback or they will not refund their money on the purchase. Don't let these sellers have the upper hand. File a "Not as Described" claim with Pay Pal or your credit card.
You will need to obtain a non-authenticity statement from a Gucci store or a third party. Since Gucci stores will not put it in writing and really do not have the time to inspect the thousands of counterfeit bags bought, your best defense is to use a third party service like ...KnowKnockOffsForum's service-@ www.authentic-luxury or www.caroldiva.

Tips on how to shop for an authentic designer bag on eBay:
*When shopping for an authentic Gucci bag, reviewing the sellers feedback is probably the most obvious way to weed out the fakes, and it is also very important.
*Read the feedback left for the seller by buyers, but also what the seller has left for others. This may show a bit of the sellers personality which may be important for determining if they are someone you want to do business with.
*Avoid sellers that have feedback that shows they did not ship the item, ship late, package poorly or do not communicate with the buyer. I just don't care to do business with this type of seller when there are so many other good sellers that provide good customer service.
*I do not recommend buying a high end designer item from a seller with low feedback, or from a seller that uses only a stock photo to sell their items. You have no idea what the actual item will look like. I personally would never buy from a seller that does not show interior photos to include the interior Gucci embossed leather tag (front and back). You should look at the front, back and bottom of the purse. Close ups of the tags, hardware and engravings.
I would have a good communication with the seller and ask them if the item is guaranteed to be authentic or they will refund your payment 100% to include all your shipping expenses, and no restocking fee. Keep in mind if you file a "Not as Described" claim with eBay/Pay Pal you will be required to send the item back to the seller or to ebay and you should not get stuck with these shipping fees.
I recommend that you avoid auctions with low feedback sellers that have a very low asking price. It is a big risk for sellers to list at such a low price and if it was authentic they would not take this risk -they would want to protect their investment. Now your Power Seller with good feedback can get away with listing the item at a low price with no reserve and come out okay-but it is always a risk unless you are certain this is a sought after item.
Everyone likes a bargain, but let common sense guide you. You are not going to buy an authentic high end designer item for a fraction of the cost-not even a pre-owned item. Believe me this just does not happen PERIOD. Remember the old saying "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is". Buying a high-end designer item for $2-350 under retail is a bargain! Buying that item for $200 is a SCAM, not a bargain. Remember what your mother told you-"You get what you pay for". Above all, please remember counterfeit sellers LIE! don't take their word for anything, ask them to show you.
I would avoid sellers that do drop shipping. They usually have a US account, but the item ships from Asia. The seller has never seen the item they are selling.
