Being a Longaberger collector, I am frequently bidding on, watching and buying Longaberger Baskets and accessories on Ebay. I have learned a lot about this process and hope that others can learn from some of the benefits I have discovered as well as some of the pitfalls I have experienced.
As with any purchase made on Ebay, it is always best that you know your product. Most Longaberger collectors recognize the particular basket up for auction, but many times these baskets have been retired. It is a good idea to have a Bentley Guide or old WishLists handy to determine if the asking or bidding price is fair. I once did not check this out and paid more for an item that was not retired than I would have paid had I purchased it from a Longaberger consultant. No use crying over split milk though!
Since these products do absorb odors, look for a seller who has kept the basket or cloth accessory in a pet-free, smoke-free home. This is really important.
If the ad is not specific about the year of the product, or if you have any questions about the item, ask before you bid whenever possible.
And finally, remember the old latin phrase, Caveat Emptor! Do your homework, and know what you are bidding on before you click Cofirm!
