Overview

This guide is to help eBayers new to wireless products to decide on which technology is best for them. eBay is lucky to have such a wide selection of products available for sale, but buyers should always know what to expect from their products to get the best experience from them.

RF Wireless Products

Not just for radio anymore, the consumer electronics catagories on eBay are filled with endless wireless systems that can fit your needs.  Based on transmitting on a wide radio frequency, these products transmit on multiple channels and allow you to cut loose of ugly wires.

Pros

  • Ranges available from 100ft to 1000ft from transmitter
  • Can transmit through walls around your home or office
  • Outdoor, Indoor, Headset, and wireless surround sound systems now available
  • Easy to move around your environment
  • Indoor and Outdoor speakers can be easily added to your transmitter configuration

Cons

  • RF speakers can receive interference
  • Others using similar equipment may "ghost" or interfere with transmission or sound quality
  • Much like your fm radio, the further away the speakers are, the more the signal degrades
  • Not secured by a pass key so other with similar devices can tune in if within range

Bluetooth Based

Previously used only for Cell Phone headsets and data transmission devices, Bluetooth wireless headphones and speakers have been developed that allow you to take full advantage of this technology.  Based on a open but short range radio frequency, Bluetooth enables devices to communicate with one another when they are in range.

Pros

  • Requires Passkey, or pairing to operate, reducing the likelihood of others using signal
  • Multiple narrow bandwidths that reduce the likelihood of interference from other devices
  • Extremely clear and full sound due to signal type
  • Ranges between 1 and 100 Meters depending on class
  • Transmits through walls, removing the need for "line of sight" transmission

Cons

  • Shorter range when compared to RF wireless (1-10 meters is common for most devices)
  • Higher price due to technology utilized than RF wireless items

Overall, wireless systems are meant to reduce the clutter, but it is always best to know what to expect and how to get the most of your wireless items.  No ebay'er should be disappointed in a purchase, and we hope this guide helps.  We invite you to vote on this guide if it was informative in anyway.
