Curb Appeal - House Exteriors

The exterior of a home is the first thing that a sees when looking at a new home.  This is generally called "Curb Appeal".  The exterior of a home is usually made out of siding.

How a home looks on the outside can make a big difference.  The exterior of a home can influence a home buyer into or out of seeing the interior of the home.  Depending on the condition of your siding you can elect to replace, repaint, or power wash your existing siding.

POWER WASH EXISTING SIDING

We suggest power washing your existing siding if it is in good or better condition and in a popular color.

  • Also keep contrasting colors.  If your home is the only dark green home in the neighborhood, that could become its main selling point.

REPAINT EXISTING SIDING

We suggest repainting existing siding if it is in Good or better condition and the paint is fading, cracking/peeling, dingy, or in a color that is not attractive to most buyers.

  • Paint choice is also important here.  Test your color choices (hold them side by side) to compare their overall effect.  Bright on Bright and Dark on Dark colors should not be used together.

REPLACE EXISTING SIDING

We suggest replacing existing siding if it is not in Good condition or better.

  • You can choose from wood siding, vinyl siding, brick siding, or aluminum siding.
  • Choose a neutral color or complementary colors that do not detract from the home.  A for example, a white house with dark shutters or a dark house with light shutters.  Green siding with red shutters can look garish for instance.
  • Also look at the quality of siding prior to purchasing.  Make sure that siding will withstand the weather conditions of your area.  If you are in an area that rains a lot, be sure that your siding will be able to resist mold.
  • Siding should also act as a barrier against ruining the insulation in your home.  Make sure that siding is air tight and does not allow air or moisture to get through.
  • Siding should be non-toxic and environmentally safe.  Replace siding that contains lead paint or turns toxic when burned.

Power washing, Repainting, or Replacing Vinyl Siding will give your home a more updated feel.  It may also increase your selling price and/or lower your selling time by bringing faster offers.
