Guide to Collecting Michael Jordan (on a budget!)

NBA superstar Michael Jeffrey Jordan of the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards is probably one of the hardest and coveted pulls ever. I've seen whole card sets have absolutely no value-except when you get to the name Jordan-there is automatically a retun on investment since it usually ranges from $5 and up.

With the advent of jersey cards, shorts cards, autograph cards, etc. that amount to astronomical figures.  How then can an average joe attain a collection that he or she can be proud of?  Here are some of my suggestions:

The best (and subsequently the most practical way) to get Michael Jordan cards is to get one representation of each of the jersey's he has worn in his NBA career.  If you would want to take it a bit further, you may also add his North Carolina Tar Heels card.  The cards I am thinking of are the following:

1) Jersey # 9 - Michael Jordan's number during the two times that he represented the United States in the Olympics. (Available: Jordan Olympic Card)

2) Jersey #12 - In a game against the Orlando Magic in Orlando, Florida in 1989-90.  Jordan's Jersey was stolen prior to the game.  The utility people were only able to come up with a stock jersey #12 (Currently, Bulls star Kirk Hinrich's number).  This is the one and only time that Jordan has worn another number outside of the familiar 23, 45, and 9.  Oh, he scored about 35 points that evening too.  This particular card belongs to one-time bulls teammate Sam Vincent soaring for a lay-up as Jordan tries to move out of the way.  Jordan wearing the #12 jersey can be seen at the bottom right hand of the card.  (Available: Sam Vincent)

3) Jordan #23 - What is your most memorable Jordan card growing up?  Insert that basic card here.  It would have the most value as there would be a story behind it such as what you had to do in order to get the card. (E.g., How many packs you opened before you got it? etc.)

4) Jordan #45 - In my opinion, the best #45 card to get is the first one that was released: eMotion Jordan.  This card has a landscape view of Jordan pointing at the direction of something.  Embossed on the corner is the word "Air."  A truly awesome card and one that you can find over eBay.

Well, I hope that this short guide is able to help you in some way with your collection.  These four cards would look great side by side in a 4-card screw down case.  What are you waiting for?  Start your collection today!

This guide represents a point of view that may be difficult for others to subscribe to.  But if you were able to look outside the box and see how this guide could be of help--especially financially--then this guide has done its job.  If you were able to find this guide helpful, kindly vote for it.  Thanks!
