During the first Batman movie in the late 1980's, Hasbro was able to ink an exclusive agreement with DC Comics to produce Batman and Superman figures. This particular deal deprived a number of long time collectors from having DC Direct versions of the cornerstones of the DC Empire in their collection until 2003 when the afforementioned agreement expired.
DC Comics produced its first modern Batman in 2004 with the HUSH line of artist Jim Lee and writer Jeff Loeb. The Series One set contained five figures: Batman, The Joker, The Huntress, Poison Ivy, and the set figure Hush. This was follwed by the release of Series Two: Nightwing, Harley Quinn, Ivy possessed Superman, Catwoman, and the set figure The Riddler. While Series Three featured: Commissioner Gordon, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Stealth Jumper Batman, and set figure Alfred Pennyworth. The HUSH line also came out with a Toyfare Exclusive figure of Jason Todd that was only made available to annual subscribers.
Breaking down the set from a collectors perspective, I would advise that the figures of Batman, Jason Todd, Hush, Nightwing and Harley Quinn remain in their original packaging as they range from $18 to $70. I would also recommend the Alex Ross Justice Series 3 Poison Ivy since the HUSH Ivy-no matter what I do--can't stand on her own for a prolonged period of time.
Displaying the set is quite a sight to behold. You can even augment your collection with figures from other DC Direct sets such as Krypto and Streaky the Cat from the Superboy and Supergirl Classic Silver Age Deluxe Figure Set; The Mad Hatter and Two-Face from The Long Halloween; Cassandra Cain Batgirl from First Appearance Series 3; Barbara Gordon Batgirl from Secret Identities; Barbara Gordon Oracle from the Birds of Prey Box Set; Bat-Mite and Ace the Dog from The Batgirl and Batwoman Classic Silver Age Deluxe Figure Set; Bane, Mask of Tengu Batman, and Azrael As Batman from Knightfall; Man-Bat, Killer Croc, and set figure Black Mask from The Rouges Gallery the afformentioned Justice Poison Ivy along with Black Canary (Series 2); and the soon to be released Robin and Penguin 2-pack from The Dark Victory line; Jim Lee's Powergirl from Infinite Crisis; Michael Turner's Supergirl and Corrupted Supergirl from Superman/Batman Series 2: The Return of Supergirl among others.
Most, if not all of these figures are available on eBay! So what are you waiting for? Start collecting today!!! (Search: DC Direct HUSH)
