If you are searching Ebay listings for authentic Chanel merchandise be careful.  Ebay has recently take some major steps in culling out all of the fake listings but I am still finding quite a few fakes out there.  The new fake handbag listings all have high prices so you can no longer search around the fakes by price.  Now it requires in depth proactive investigation.  Here are a few tips for identifying a fake Chanel handbag. 

1) An authentic Chanel handbag should have only one white tag hanging from it if it is brand new and never used.  This white tag looks like this.

Here are some examples of fake Chanel handbags and their fake accessories. 

Notice the little black tag hanging on the bag. FAKE.  I see a lot of so called "authentic Chanel handbag" listings that have this small black tag hanging on the bag.  Please report this listings as soon as you see one. 

Most commonly used FAKE Chanel serial number.  You will see this one more than any other although there are several other fake serial numbers in circulation right now.  I will post the other known fake serial numbers here shortly.  Most sellers of fake merchandise will not show the serial number in the listing at all.  If you are interested in a particular bag and the serial number is not showing in any of the photo's then please ask the seller to provide a picture of that serial number.  If the seller cannot produce the information stay away.  I must mention that older vintage Chanel handbags made prior to the 80's will not have a serial number.  Be especially careful when purchasing vintage Chanel handbags. There have been counterfeit Chanel handbags made almost as long as the authentic ones.  I have seen a lot of FAKE vintage Chanel handbags. 

This FAKE has all kinds of problems.  Notice the little metal "dog tag" hanging on the bag.  That is an obvious giveaway.  Stay away from any Chanel handbag that has this feature.  Also the care booklet with the gold trim is wrong for this particuar style of bag.  There is a little white FAKE tag hanging on the left side of the bag.  It's similar to the little black one that I showed earlier above.  I know this picture is small but if you could inlarge it you would see how crooked the CC's are on the bag.  The stitching is terrible also.  Authentic Chanel handbags have perfect stitching and the quality is excellent.

If you find a handbag and the price seems too good to be true then it probably is.  Research your seller and ask lot's of questions.  A legit seller will have no problem providing you with additional information, picutures, etc.  Be careful out there.  Even the most educated consumer can fall prey to the criminals from time to time.  Always use your credit card to pay for your purchases.  Even if you use Paypal remember to pay with a credit card. You can always file a claim with the credit card company if you have to. 

Lastly,  shop with sellers that have a return policy.  Any legit seller will have one.  I see that most sellers of fake merchandise say "All sales final".  Where is the customer service in that?  There is none.  They will take your money and run.  Filing a paypal claim and getting your money back can take 30 days or longer in some cases.  Be careful out there.
