Tales from the Malzan Book of the Fallen is one of the very best fantasy series going. Steven Erikson is trained as both an archaeologist and anthropologist and it reflects in the richness of the world he has created. In my opinion better at the start, and certainly going forward into later volumes, than Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series or George R. R. Martin's Songs of Fire and Ice series, both of which I like.
The series is scheduled to consist of ten volumes, seven of which have been published to date:
1. Gardens of the Moon (1999);
2. Deadhouse Gates (2000);
3. Memories of Ice (2001);
4. House of Chains (2002);
5. Midnight Tides (2004);
6. The Bonehunters (2006); and,
7. Reaper's Gale (2007).
The next volume, titled Toll the Hounds, is scheduled for release in August of 2008.
For those who can't wait (like me) these books have all been released first in the UK and so I have bought UK copies here on eBay and elsewhere, read them, and then sold them to others who cannot wait, for as much money or more than I paid.
For more on Erikson and the series, below are some links. You will have to copy and paste into your browser as ebay prohibits external links.
