GRUMPY: A Care Bear Profile    

Grumpy Bear frowns a lot-that's his way to show is how silly we look when we frown too much.  He also shows us that it is ok to be grumpy sometimes. We are still loved even when we are grumpy!

His tummy symbol, a rain cloud with heart-shaped raindrops, reminds us it's ok to be grumpy sometimes but not all the time.

His mission is to help other see how silly it is to get carried away with our own grumpiness.

He is grouchy, but perserverent while being accident prone.

He is sometimes envious of Good Luck Bear and his favorite color is blue.

Grumpy is one of the original 10 Care Bears created by American Greetings in 1981 for a line of greeting cards.  The idea was so successful, American Greetings teamed up with Kenner in 1983 to produce the plush bears and other Care Bears merchandise.

Over 40 Million Care Bears toys were sold between 1983 and 1987!

Grumpy was, and still is, one of the favorite Care Bears in history and seems to be the most collected.

I think it is because we are all grumpy sometimes so we can relate!

The basic design of Grumpy has not changed through the years.  Unlike some other Care Bears, his tummy symbol and color have not changed since 1983.

This generation's mistake bears! Bedtime Bear has Grumpy's colors but not his frown and tummy symbol. These are only found in the 13" plush size.

Grumpy was also part of the Charmers Series...the bears look like crushed velvet with color coordinated jewel noses!

Grumpy also comes in the Celebration Series from 2005.  These are sitting bears and are very very soft.  He comes in both the 8" and 13" sizes.

 Grumpy also came packaged with a VHS featuring a Care Bears Cartoon episode.

We are all waiting to see if Grummpy will be released in the new Floppy Scented style.

Only the 8" "Beannie" style, the 10" plush and the 8" and 13" Celebration styles can occasioanly be found on store shelves now.  The rest are available only on the secondary market and of course, on EBAY!
