Greg Oden Ohio State Greg Oden Jersey
Born on January 22, 1988 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Greg Oden is widely considered to be the top high school basketball player in the United States. Now a senior at Lawrence North High School, he was named High School Co-Player of the Year by Parade Magazine in 2005 and again in 2006. He was also named Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006, the first high school junior since LeBron James to earn the title.
While Oden would normally be considered a top pick for the NBA draft, new rules have mandated that draftees must wait at least one year after high school before starting the draft process. In 2005, Oden announced that he would enroll at Ohio State University for the 2006-2007 season.
Greg Oden is seven feet tall, weighs 245 pounds, and wears jersey number 50. As a senior at Lawrence North, he led the basketball team to a Class 4A Indiana state championship title. With his help, Lawrence North was undefeated in the 2005-2006 season and became the first Indiana high school ever to finish first in the USA Today Super 25 ranking.
During his senior year, Oden averaged 22 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Shooting 74 percent from the field, he was named to the McDonald's All American Team and was even asked to join the 2008 Olympic Men's Basketball Team. Many experts familiar with Oden's style compare him to David Robinson, the NBA star who played for the Spurs until 2003 and won Olympic gold medals in 1992 and 1996 as a member of the Men's Basketball "Dream Team."
