I recently purchased an Iguana Kingdom Habitat which measures 32" x 32" x 60" for my female Green Iguana. These lizards are NOT for the casual keeper and will get up to 6 feet in length within the first five years of their life span which can be up to 25 years or more if they are properly housed and cared for.  MONSTER-PETS on eBay has the Iguana Kingdom at the best price I have ever seen, they are a great store to purchase from and I highly recommend their reptile selection.

I also recommend that you purchase a copy of Green Iguana - The Ultimate Owner's Manual by James W. Hatfield III. This book is an indispensible resource for beginning Iguana fanciers to experienced keepers and breeders. There isn't a question about your Iguana that you can't find an answer for. Another online resource to turn to for advice is the Yahoo! Iguana forum, nothing beats the advice you get from seasoned iguanaphiles.

If you are considering purchasing a Green Iguana, please do your research before you make your buy. If you are not prepared for the expense of caring for a purely vegetarian lizard with heating, large housing, and high dietary requirements this is not the lizard for you. It may sound like I am trying to discourage people from having an Iguana for a pet, but I'm not. I am hoping to encourage responsible reptile ownership as there are a large number of displaced and homeless Iguanas out there that were bought by ill-equipped and unprepared keepers on a whim.

There are plenty of Reptile Rescue groups out there and I would encourage any prospective Iguana Owners to contact a rescue group for a reptile rather than purchase one from a pet store.  There are hundreds of orphaned Iguanas out there like Spike looking for the right owner. Can you find the right lizard for you?

Spike was placed with the assistance of Herp Haven Reptile Rescue and their Second Chance Iguana Home program. You can find them online, it's definitely worth a look. They're a great organization and we're very happy with the family they found to adopt Spike.
