Its sometimes hard to know what embellishments are good to use. So, I am going to give you some tips on what I have found so far works best.
Buttons-Buttons are a great way to add something extra that will make your pages "POP". If you have a button (such as the Dress it up line), you will notice sometimes there is a piece of plastic on the back. To remove that and make a flat surface, simply take a pair of plyers and bend it back and forth, until it snaps off. You can also file down the backing with a nail wedge.
Metals-Metals can be great. However, some can be to big and weigh down your pages. Make sure you are using a flat metal for each page you are doing.
Jolee's- These are my personal favorites. The By You's are small and great to run through your sticker maker.
Rocks-If using rocks such as beach or land, always make sure they are clean and its best if they are flat. This will make your book not bulky. You would not want a book that would not close.
Fibers-Fibers can be great to add on tags and some pages. However, you must be careful the type you are using. Some are very privy to fraying. Always make sure you use good quality and nothing too stringy.
Die-Cuts & Punchies-These are perfect for anything. These are very safe to use anywhere, provided the paper is always acid & lignin free.
I will be updating this page more as we try new things.
