The Graco Snugride Car Seat is the only Car seat I would ever own for a newborn!  Its an awesome car seat!!  Not only does it get high ratings from Baby Bargains Book, which I also highly recommend to new parents, but it gets one from me!!  My friends all bought other brands and complained how the seats were smaller and their babies were uncomfortable in them when they got bigger.  Not mine!!  And with my Kolcraft universal car seat stroller it was even easier!!  If you haven't gotten a stroller for your newborn you should get one of those instead!!  The car seat latches on and there is a huge basket underneath for storage!  And it weighs probably 10lbs at most!  Super easy to get into and out of the car.  I have had many moms stop me and look. 

My son and I were involved in a very serious car accident in which we were hit head on.  My car was totalled, but my son who was 7 months at the time was perfectly fine in his Graco Snugride.  While the paramedics checked on me and took me to the hospital my son was with the nurse laughing and happy.  I love this car seat not only is it a safe car seat, but its comfortable for the baby and easy for me to get in and out of the car with or without the base!  I can't say how many naps both of my kids took in this car seat.  It rocks!!

After the accident I bought a Britax Marathon which I also recommend, it is by far the easiest convertible car seat on the market.  So easy to put in the car and super easy to put baby into.  It's worth the extra money you have to spend to get the best!!  We haven't been in any crashes since then, but I know my son would be safe!  I bought my mom a lesser brand a Safety First for her car to take him to school and back and I hate that one. It's not as comfortable for him to sit in for long periods of time. It's hard to get him in and out of and hard to get the straps from twisting!!  Just when you are ready to go somewhere they get twisted and it takes a long time to get them back to normal!!  The marathon straps never twist and they are super easy to put on and take off!!  My son is so comfortable sitting it in it too. 

I loved both of them so much I bought the same kind for my daughter when she was born.  She has already graduated to the Britax and loves sitting up to see the world out the window!!  I feel totally happy and safe having them ride in the Marathon.  And my husband loves how easy they are with the latch system to put into and out of each car we drive! 

If word of mouth matters, this mom was very happy with both the Graco Snugrides and the Britax Marathons my kids have riden in!!  They rock!!
