I'm an avid amateur photographer, and used film cameras exclusively, back in the good old days. In order to put my hard copy photos on my computer, I scanned 'em. Copy and paste this link into your browser and hit <enter>for a full sized example of a scanned photographic print (How I spent my Summer Vacation, 1999).:

A few tips on making your scanned image work in your auction:

  • Learn to use your scanner - don't just slap the image on the glass, scan it and put the ENTIRE SCANNER BED IMAGE in your auction. Check out "The Official eBay Bible" for basic information on cropping, resizing and enhancing (not "phonying") your image, if you're a complete novice.
  • Avoid putting HUGE images that don't fit comfortably into a browser screen. If your customer has to scroll ----------------------------------------------------> and

  • V
  • to see the image, you're gonna lose bidders or BIN customers. Make sure the main pic is no more than 800 pixels wide or 600 pixels high.
  • If your item has specific areas you want to enlarge, crop the original image, enlarge that part to no more than 800 pixels wide or600 pixels high and add it. Copy and paste the link into your browser and hit <enter>:

  • If you're handy with image manipulation programs, add some text to point out flaws (You're inhibiting my model!). Again, copy and paste the link into your browser and hit <enter>:

If you're offering collectible cards, photos, autographs, tickets, etc, put 'em on your flatbed scanner, rather than using your digital camera to photograph them. You'll be glad you did.
