THIS GUIDE WILL DEAL WITH MY PASSION FOR ONE D.C.  COMICS CROWN JEWELS OF THE GOLDEN AGE ....SENSATION COMICS WITH WONDER WOMAN....

It became apparent , by 1940, that a female super-heroine could carry the lead role in a title of her own....Most of the female super-heroes , were, at best "second banana" to either a male version of themselves ( SUCH IS THE CASE WITH FAWCETT PUBLICATIONS BULLETMAN  & BULLETGIRL  OR ANOTHER EARLY EXAMPLE IS  CATMAN AND KITTEN .. .) Regardless, it was surely time for a Female lead in comics...WHEN WWII broke out , there were several super-ladies in comics, but none like WONDER WOMAN ...!!!! WW was , by far the mightiest of all the super-chicks and in JANUARY 1942 ..SENSATION COMICS # 1 Appeared , and was , by all accounts, a smash hit. Created by DR. Charles Marston Moulton, a rather "quirky" fellow in his day , and drawn beautifully by Harry g. Peter for most of its 106 issue run with Wonder woman. The Catalog value of these timeless classics is very low relative to the rest of the golden age for around $ 5,000 - $ 7,500 you could purchase a very nice example of SENSATION #1 a steal for a book of that importance and scarcity in the golden age of comics ..After #1, the prices drop of sharply , making this series, by far ,very affordable compared to other golden age series runs. When i started collecting SENSATION, I noticed, right away, that while a bargain, they re very hard to find, especially the post-war era issues , the "small logo" era , roughly 1946-1951 or Sensation # 72-93 are scarce, in some cases , very very scarce !!!!!, Many in the later 1940's have individual known survivorship numbers below 200 copies..!!!!!!!!!!!! these stats floored me , and yet the prices are mostly under $100.00 in vg !!!!! wowwww !!!! it appears , no one much saved these , in some cases , there are no known copies of later sensations from the fabulous "mile high " collection ,granted, super-hero comics in general, were , by 1949 in total decline with many other publishers discountining their super-hero books in favor of other genres( teen humor, romance , funny animal, horror-sci-fi. etc.  ) In 1951, with issue # 106 Wonder woman was Cancelled as the lead feature and sadly, the title became another mediocre Sci-fi title , re-named "SENSATION MYSTERY "with # 110 , the series ended six issues later...if you ve seen the covers of some of these post wonder woman books, you know why ...gone was  light-hearted fun , colorfully drawn super-hero title ...Luckily , WW, her barely did survive in her own named comic, which, for most of the 1950's was only six times a year ...Previously, she had been featured or guest starred in four to five different titles ...Sensation comics...a more affordable series to collect, i have no doubt in future years , these books will greatly increase in value and demand.....DANNY ANABLE,  FEBRUARY 2009
