If you are planning to go, or considering going to eBay Live! in Chicago, here are things you should know.
eBay Live! is NOT just for eBay cheerleaders! Yes, there are those who are eBay fans (or fanatics) who attend; but it's also good for those who are less than thrilled with eBay, or wondering if or how eBay will remain a productive part of their online presence.
First of all, what better chance are you going to get to actually speak to the policy makers of the website? Do you think your emails or message board posts are going unnoticed? eBay Live! is your chance to speak to some of the top brass face to face, and often even one-on-one. People like Lorrie Norrington and John Donohoe, as well as various others will be available in the Community Lounge to have casual conversations with eBay users. Plus, there will be the Town Hall event with open microphones for questions for the top brass, as well as eBay category and department booths on the Solutions floor where you can talk to more eBay employees.
Aside from grilling the top guns, there are numerous other opportunities at Live. There are educational and informational sessions for everyone from the beginning buyer to the seasoned Powerseller. There are hands-on computer labs, Live! Discussions, and classes with powerpoint presentations on everything from how to take good pictures to improving your DSRs, to making search work fo you. There will be a special discussion on eBay and Rural America (Saturday, 2pm), where both buyers and sellers can discuss the ways eBay can have a positive impact on rural areas, as well as discuss the unique challenges faced by rural eBayers and how they overcome them. Need new products to sell? This year there will be the AMD Sourcing Pavilion to give you access to supplies. And as always, there will be the Solutions Floor, filled with exhibitors who can help make your eBay experience more productive.
eBay Live! is not just for the seller looking to grow their business, but for ANYONE who wants to use the site more effectively. Even a casual seller who works another full-time job can benefit from attending Live, just to learn how to be more productive and profitable while maintaining the same number of listings. Even if a person has never used eBay, they can find sessions on things like taxes, marketing, or other things that can help them in their career or daily life.
If you are a person who is physically challenged, don't worry! eBay is excellent at making sure your special needs at the convention will be met if at all possible! If you forgot to indicate on your registration that you will need assistance, be sure to contact Registration Customer Service at 508-743-0530 or 800-915-9802. Registration Customer Service is open from 9am - 5pm EST. Even those who do not appear physically handicapped sometimes have special needs, and those folks are the ones who can help you.
Let us not forget---eBay Live! is NOT just about work and education! It's about networking, making friends, and some just plain FUN too! Starting with the 6th Annual Meet & Greet, a user-organized, un-official kick-off on Wednesday night; and ending with the Gala on Saturday night, grooving to the sound of Chris Isaacs, there's lots of time to just relax and enjoy being with others who have a common interest.
The Meet & Greet will be held at the M/X lounge (inside the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place) from 6:30 - 11pm on Wednesday, June 17th. Sponsored by Skip McGrath (eBay user ID: Mcgrrrrr), this will be a fun-filled event! There will be over 50 door prizes given away, a gift bag exchange for those who choose to bring a bag, an ice breaker game with prizes, and lots of networking opportunity. Skip McGrath will also be there to sign autographs for those who are interested. It's the perfect chance to get to know the people you will be rubbing elbows with over the next three days! This year's optional dress-up theme is Gangsters and Flappers, so if you are the adventuresome type, don your duds and get into the old time Chicago atmosphere! Limited amounts of appetizers will be provided, but the majority of food and all drinks will be pay as you go.
