Does the eye really see through the glam and glitz of an auction item or does the brain take over and look for the true value and best buy?
That has been a question bugging me for months but I did not know how to find the answer, I admit I was stumped how would I ever know if alittle extra eye vision fun in a auction would bring in the sale as opposed to just an Item on a table at a better price ..
So over the past month I tried something, I had A Little mermaid VHS tape in mint Condition , anniversary edition, week One I sat the tape on the table nothing fancy snapped a photo wrote a small description and left it sit at .99 cents for 3 days. not even a watcher, in the end I had 34 people look at this item. but no sale. week 2,
I re-list same Item. same price only this time I use a stock photo, again .99 cents I did get 2 watchers 44 total viewed it NO sale. Week 3,
I laid the tape out on red velvet , I added Little animation to my auction that took me for ever to figure out how to do, I had to have help but I had a Disney banner in all its glory showing, and listed the tape for 4.99 with a BIN of 6.99 this time I had 10 watcher at one point and 76 views total in a 3 day listing. but still no sale..
Now week four.. this week,, I used a stock photo, listed it at 4.99 with a BIN of 6.99 no glamor no glitz just a stock photo and raised my price from the .99 cents to 4.99 from week 2 all was the same except.... I added some personal notes this time I did not just let the stock photo notes be all that they read, I wrote how wonderful this movie was for a family to sit and watch all together and how our family really enjoyed video night at our house, I personalized it up.. took out the glitz, glamor used stock photo and just added a personal touch. now remember this is the same tape I had listed twice for .99 cents. Today it sold for 5.74 cents with two bids on a 3 day auction. so what is the moral of this story , I my self am still not quit sure, But I do know that banners flying and dolling this item up did not sell it, nor did just snapping a photo and leaving it as that. It was when I gave it a personal touch that it was viewed, and bid on, and now sold. can this be what people are really looking for? a History behind the item? I guess only time will tell us. but Its worth trying.. and I thought I'd pass it on. let others try it this way, see how it works. I'd love to hear back from anyone who does find that this way does sell better or more often.. eBay mail me please .let me know. thank you for you time
