The EBay market for vintage Gillette Safety Razors remains hot. More and more wet shavers are turning back the clock and going to safety razors that are 40-50 year old. These vintage safety razors are excellent razors and offer both a great shave and continuing value, since they increase in price year to year. The are made to last several life times.

Among the several models available for the enlightened wet shaver is the Gillette FATBOY or heavy handle. It is the most popular vintage safety razor on EBay today. However the purpose of my guide is to discuss the virtues of the Gillette Extra Long Black Handle Adjustable Safety Razor. This is a beautiful razor that was one of the last truly great razors Gillette made before going to those plastic disposables that are now polluting our earth. Here are few pics for comparison.



The Extra Long Black Handle, sometimes called the Black Beauty, is made for men who love to shave. The extra long handle is a full 4 inches. A good 1/2 inch longer than the FATBOY. The handle is covered with a black resin over metal. It has a great feel and makes gripping your razor feel very secure in your hand. The extra length allows the user to use it like art-brush to get a better angle. You can hold it several ways, up or down, use your thumb and a guide, and if you have larger hands you will find it does not get lost in your palm.


All the Gillette Adjustable Razors have the same 1-9 settings. The setting allow you to change the angle of the blade to suit your beard and skin. They all give a great shave.

The Black Beauty is another option to consider when you make your next purchase. I think if you try one you will not be disappointed.
