How to Measure for Men's Clothes & Size Chart

Buying men’s clothing on eBay or anywhere online can be frustrating. If you measure correctly and Ask Your Seller to do the same, you can get a really close fit. Don’t trust the size on the tag(but use it as a guide), since the garment could have been laundered incorrectly or just not be standard. If you’re not the average, it’s even more important that you do the homework and have your seller do it too. Double check that the measurements given in an auction are done the same way you did them. If you are tall and looking for length in a shirt don’t trust a tall size,  Ask! It’s worth the trouble. Sometimes regular sizes can be just as long or longer than a tall. Measuring is just as important if you are on the shorter side and don't want to swim in something too long or just too big. Write down all your measurements for reference when asking sellers about their clothing. Recheck those measurements every few months, things can creep up, or down, on you! eBay is a wonderful place to find high quality men's clothing for great prices. Have fun!

Important Note, The size chart below refers to Your body measurements, Not clothing dimensions. If your measurements happen to be between two sizes, look for the next bigger one. Recommended Sizes below, are only a guideline!

How to measure
(Measure over your undergarments with a fabric tape measure, you may need help for some of these.)

Neck - Measure around your neck where the top of the collar goes, flush with your neck, not too loose, not too tight. For a loose fit collar add 1 inch, for a snug fit, add ½ inch. Round this up to the nearest ¼ inch.

Chest - Relax arms at your sides, measure around the highest widest part of your chest and shoulder blades.
This is just around the chest and does
NOT include your arms.

Waist for shirts - Measure around the fullest part of your mid section.
(This is very important if you are buying a fitted or tapered shirt!)

Hips for shirts or pants - Stand with your heels together and measure around the fullest part of your hips across your buttocks keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
(This is very important if you are buying a fitted or tapered shirt!)

Shirt Length - Measure from the base of the neck in back(where your collar would meet the shirt body) to the point where your buttocks end and your legs begin, the typical length of a dress shirt. Round up to the nearest full inch.

Sleeve Length - Measure from the center back collar, where it meets the shirt body, across to shoulder and all the way to the first thumb knuckle, with arm slightly extended. Subtract 1 inch to 1 ½ inches, depending on how long you like your sleeves. (see example above). Shoulder widths vary and can either drop past yours or pull up on the shoulder. This measurement gives the combined length that will tell you exactly where the end of the sleeve will hit your arm/hand. It’s called a 'retail measurement'.

Waist for pants - Measure your natural waist at the height you normally wear your pants.
Note: Some types of pants have a higher or lower 'rise', i.e. hip huggers. Ask your seller if they don’t note the 'rise', such as 'low rise' in the description.

Hips for pants - See above.

Inseam - Measure inner leg, standing erect, from lower crotch(where your pants would normally hang) to finished length.
Consider the shoes you will wear and how the heel height will affect the length you need.
