My friends and those who are eBay community members I have been playing guitars and stringed instruments since I do not know when but, my dad, he died when I was 11 and it was about 2-3 years he bough a family guitar from Harmony and it was a fine guitar, still in the USA by hundreds of thousands> I know because 50,000 are here in my computer room.
the first problems were the hands: My hands did not fit the neck well, although my 43 years old dad had his usual ball. you must see, if it is for your child if the hand is fitting properly, as some instruments like most guitars the thumb is wrapped around the neck and the tip just pops up comfortably on the top of the neck, this way hi/her chords can be complete and you will not have the poor child trying to form an "F" anf the thumb is up, but the fingers in front are not pressing the strings just in front of the frets in which chord (if he/she is trying to form a chord, as a chord is made up of only a few certain notes and the notes must be clear and not just touching the strings,m making the strings buzz near the frets or on the fretboard somwhere, if you get a room full of teens trying to put their smaller fingers around the necks of guitars, it could sound as an hive ob hornets!
Make sure their fingers in front are touching just in front of the frets, as even some guitar maker(the better hand-made ones [like Harmony] put an extra fret where the "F" position is supposed to be...[the extra fret] as you want every finger to touch right in back of each and every fret so as to make clear melodies and chords).
What a difference this makes and it makes guitar, Bass, mandolins, sitar, ukes, banjos, dobros the steel guitars (with the '57 Lancer hubcap in the front), and practice wgether casul (by ear) or by sheet (my leats favorite) as I taught myself how to play mostle R & B as well a Blues/rock by time the rock movies came out in the mid 1950's.
So, I will pick up next time,my favarite, which while on eBay I got a following which I instrusted on which to choose and expecially why and what kind to buy as the importance to pick a comfortable 25-40 pound piece of lumber across your shoulders can be made to be comfortabls). I am Richard the "Bassman" who speaks only after celebrating my 55 years on strings, so I have some Basses, maybe you do too, but, can you play them, and, can you play 4 hours without pain? Love ya..."The Bassman" I hope you learned and enjoyed it!
