Happiness Is Gaming
A FiveStep Program for a Game Room Everyone Loves.
-
Start BIG consider the largest object your going to buy. pool table, pinball, pingpong or poker table or arcade machine. Measure entry ways, playing spaces, and consider colors before you purchase. Keep your entry way measurements in your wallet. Don't be burdened with an game you can't get in the door. A 7ft pool table is often easier and more fun to play, and will fit a room better than an 8 or 9 foot table. Make sure you plan your room carefully. You'll want to leave plenty of room for your pool stick.

Look for creative decorations to please everyone in the family. Movie Posters and frames, Neon Lights, Vintage Signage, sports memoriabilia. Posters are great as you can change the look of your room very inexpensively. Consider finding original (One Sheet) movie posters and custom frames. Both of which are easily available right here on Ebay. Custom street signs add a personal touch. Embossed street signs, and vintage signage add a cool touch. Don't skimp on the the proper wall hangers. Unless original autographs are your thing save money and buy reproductions. Lie to your friends : ) how many of them can tell the difference.
-
Furniture is a must. Stools work great. They invite people to sit and stay while not anchoring them to one spot. Consider what you will use to hold beverages and protect your investment from waterstains. Don't forget a trash receptical. You can even find vintage trash cans. I found a pacman trash can that really complements my gameroom.
-
Watch for bargins and unique items by using Ebay search options that alert you when items that fit your needs are listed. Watching for rare items to pop up such as a autographed Mario Andretti 5x7, or a Simpsons Pinball machine. Don't be afraid to make a low offer. Sellers will often give you an indication of the lowest price.
-
Recycle! There is a border between interesting and busy. Use Ebay to sell items when you get bored with them. This will keep your cost down and your happiness up. You are unlikely to loose much and may actually profit if you do your research before you buy.
Stay Focused on Everyone in the Family. Watch the games that get utilized the most. Use two or three themes that complement everyone so the room is fun for everyone. My gameroom is a cross between 80's arcade and space themed movies. You can easily balance the needs of everyone and make it a cool place by selecting items carefully. The hunt is literally half the fun. Good hunting.
