This is a guide is meant to be a cheap and relatively simple means of allowing almost anyone to get their blue bottomed PS2 games to work on their Playstation 2 systems. This fix does not involve opening the system or doing anything which may void your warranty.
First some explanations are in order. Blue bottomed PS2 discs are not DVD's, but are actually standard CD-Roms. Since they are standard CD-Roms, the PS2's drive must spin at a far higher speed to access the information on most PS2 CD-Rom games. That's why the Playstation 2 will emit far greater noise when attempting to play these games. When a game does not boot up, it has nothing to do with the lens of the drive or defective disc. It's actually a flaw in the design. In 99% of cases, the drive is attempting to spin the disc so fast, the disc slips and therefore cannot be read by the system. Standard playstation games do not have this problem in a PS2, because they were made for a 2x speed drive.
An easy way to remedy this is to put something on the disc that will allow more "grip". One of the best things to use is scotch tape. Put two long pieces of tape on the top of the disc to where it forms an "H". With the center hole of the disc being the center crossbar of the "H". Now after applying the tape, test the game in your system. It should fix the problem. It may sometimes take two tries to get the game to work, but it should boot up now.
