Digital scales can help increase your selling efficiency in many ways.  The most important thing for most eBayers & online vendors is effective time management.  From time to time I actually walk into the Post Office (usually when I have an international order to ship, but my client paid via a US Postal address).  I still see business owners with loads of packages to mail standing in long Post Office lines.  This is absolutely ridiculous.  With the advent of high speed Internet and online postage printing sites (namely the US Post Office), standing in line, unless you have nothing better to do, should be obsolete to your business.  You can now weigh your packages at home (eBay offers PayPal integration to print accurate shipping labels) and print correct postage for that item.  By reducing overpayment on outgoing mail, most businesses could save anywhere from 10% to 25% on postage expenses (if you ship a lot, that is considerable money!).

As for package pickup, visit USPS.com; you are able to schedule NEXT DAY pickup at your home or office for free.  On their website, you are supposed to be shipping at least 1 Overnight or 2-3 Day mailing in order to schedule a pickup.  But I checked with my local mail carrier & the local Postmaster, and they both told me that is not correct; they will allow you to schedule any type of mail they carry (just check off an overnite package as part of  the online form).  For processing large volumes of mail, you may want to get a scale that integrates with the rest of your postage system, including the postage meter, feeder, and sealer.  These are now available and can connect to your computer via USB port.

There are many scales for sale right here on eBay.  Just be sure as with any eBay purchase, to check the sellers' feedback (I purchased mine from a PowerSeller who claimed same day shipping; I received it TWO weeks later; had I checked his feedback I would have seen warnings) & also don't forget to include shipping in the total price.  I have also seen scales for $4.99, but the $30 shipping kills the deal!

Make sure you purchase a scale that will weigh down to tenths of an ounce, that way you only pay for the absolute necessary postage!  Schedule at home or office pickup for everything!  In one week, you will save yourself time and money you can now spend with your family!
