Those Power Wheels batteries that you pay $50.00 + for are really two six volt "SLA"s.SLA stands for Sealed Lead Acid, and these batteries are used for security systems , computer back up systems ,and the like.
I have been through 7 Power Wheels with my grand kids and started using the SLAs since they are cheaper! You can find them on E-Bay. I once paid $5.00 for two used ones on E-Bay.You can expect to pay $10.00 - 15.00 for a twelve volt one. I just clipped the plugs on the Power Wheels wire and rep;aced it witha red and a black aligator clip. The good news is that the SLAs they are recahargeable, and you can use a standard automotive battery charger.
This has been my experience for many years. It works and saves money!
