Get Glowing: The Perfect Sunless Tan
Are you searching for the perfect sunless tan with no hassle, mess, streaks, blotches or 'orangey' look? Read on ...
I was a sun worshiper my whole life. That is, until I hit 30 a few years ago and finally realized that if I truly wanted to maintain young, healthy looking skin that I was going to have to take heed, integrate an SPF into my daytime skin care regimen, and, most importantly, stop recklessly sunbathing. (Damn!)
Naturally, the first thing I noticed was that slowly but surely, my skin began to feel healthier and softer all over. However, even though I am lucky enough to have a rosy medium complexion, I did also begin to notice after several months that I no longer had the perpetual 'sun kissed glow' that we all tend to associate with looking our best.
I have tried many if not every sunless tanning product available from inexpensive to ridiculously overpriced. I have not liked a single solitary one of them. Maybe they are good for some, but for me, the entire concept is too time consuming if you're going to do it properly including exfoliation, even application, drying time, avoiding fingers, toes, nails, elbows, knees, ankles, etc... and the results too inconsistent (one boo-boo and you are relegated to long pants/sleeves in the middle of summer - and if it's your face, well, forget it). Don't get me wrong, I do put a lot of time and effort overall into looking my best, but I have found that products and routines that are both simple AND deliver good, consistent results are the only ones I'm actually willing to stick with for the long haul.
I had given up on sunless tanning and accepted my 'new' complexion ... and then suddenly the concept of moisturizers with 'a touch of sunless tanner' or 'subtle skin tone enhancers' began sweeping the market. My advice to the person looking for a simple and effective way to maintain a healthy overall glow is THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT! You can't go wrong. You can't turn yourself orange. You can't destroy your elbows, knees, ankles, fingernails, toes or hairline. You virtually can't apply unevenly (and it's undetectable if you do). And they really DO deliver a more even, glowing, radiant complexion all over. Additionally, contrary to popular belief - you don't have to use them for days and days to see results - most of them will deliver an immediate improvement and a very nice color development after just a few applications. The best part is that you have TOTAL CONTROL over your color - if you feel you've gotten enough color - simply skip a day or two. Not quite dark enough? Apply again before bed (or again in the morning if you normally use at bedtime).
Generally, they are available in either 'light/fair' or 'medium/dark' tones, and are offered by just about every drugstore brand that puts out body moisturizers, like Olay, L'Oreal, Jergens, Dove, Neutrogina and Aveeno. They just about all have a body formula and a face formula. I've tried them all and none were bad as far as skin color results go - for me the challenge has been finding the one that smells the best, feels the nicest going on and has the best moisturizing properties. My personal favorite? It was Aveeno's Active Naturals Continuous Radiance ... until Lancome came out with "Glow Sensuelle" which is my new favorite. It smells GREAT, and delivers soft, silky moisturization, a very subtle, almost undetectable shimmer, and a great 'color enhancing' effect.
Let's face it. You should be moisturizing every day ANYWAY to maintain healthy, hydrated skin ... why not get a little glow out of it?
Trust me ladies - hang it up on 'sunless tanners' and go this route - it's quick, simple, effective - and very easy to build into your daily routine. Best of all - it's guaranteed not to leave you looking like a streaky-freak!
