In the 1970s and before, Geroco Melody Plus, also known as the George Rose Company operated in Southern California. The name is probably foreign to most collectors because they operated on a wholesale only basis. They sold musical instruments and accesories, but also sold imported generic badges.
Their line included SPECIAL OFFICER, SECURITY OFFICER, PRIVATE DETECTIVE, SPECIAL POLICE and DEPUTY SHERIFF badges.
The PI and security badges were the more modern style shields, but the Deputy Sheriff, Special Police and Special Officer badges were 6 point stars that have often been offered as antiques. With a little wear and patina it's almost impossible to tell them from real antique badges. They have dimpled ball tips with tongue catches which you could expect in a badge from the 20s and 30s.
