Hello fellow collectors today im going to give you a few tips on buying German WW2 photos.
#1. Size of pics , they come in all kinds of diff sizes but are usally in 3 distinct sizes in inches
5 1/2 x 3 1/2 postcard size...
2 1/2 x 3 1/2 reg size photos these are the most common
2 1/3 x 2 1/3 size small pics.
#2. photo paper brands used during ww2 on german side or french ,
these are the most common names on the back of photos.photo paper names
AGFA-LUPEX
VELOX
AGFA-BROVIA
MIMOSA
RIDAX
and also with no names on back. these papers can be tested by using a black light to see if its a postwar print copy.
#3.alot of these ww2 photos have writting on the backs from the person who took the pics or whoever got them developed, they are usally written in german with names or places or dates these are very helpful in finding out what part of the combat area they were taken.there are pleanty of german translater web sites to help you find the english translation from the back of the photo..
#4. if you see hard to find photos of subjects like tiger tanks and panther tanks and elite troops and so on. these are the most frequent pics that are copied or reprinted post war due to the very expensive prices being paid for original 100% ww2 era pics, they are rare to find as most are in collections or still in family albums.so if you come upon one listed on ebay ask ?? as to originallity and what the back of photo looks like, if your going to spend that amount of money be real sure its a real ww2 photo and not a russian copy or eastern european reprint that are out there...
#5.price wise these photos are a good investment as you can buy large lots for a few dollars, or whole photo albums for $100+ .. there are tons of good german ww2 photos for sale on ebay and ebay germany..
i hope this has helped a few buyers, thxs joe
