This is the second guide to introduce one of the many German riding apparel and tack companies that are not so well known in the US. It is meant to give you some information about their products and maybe help you decide if you want to buy them or not.

HKM Reitsport GmbH:

HKM started in Germany many years ago with selling high quality saddle pads and blankets. In the meantime they offer a full range of English horse tack and riding apparel.
This company is not well known in the US yet.

My favorite HKM items are the different dressage saddle pads. Starting with the simple quilted cotton square pad, which comes in over 20 (!) colors and with or without a silver/ gold trim, they also have great velvet pads, faux suede pads and pads with fancy quilting for every taste and purpose. They are unbeatable in price and quality, wash and fit well and stay nice for a very long time.

As mentioned, HKM also offers riding apparel: breeches, vests, jackets, shirts, you name it....
Their full seat breeches are made from a heavy, knitted cotton/ spandex material and feature a faux suede seat.
A lot of riders prefer the knitted fabric, because it is softer, more comfortable to wear and more stretchy than the woven.
However, you shouldn't buy these breeches if you have a very slim waist, because they might be too wide.
They are available in many colors, as well as in striped and plaid patterns. Interesting is, that they are designed to fit both, men and women, and they also come in kid's sizes. They only offer them in one length, which is generously long.

HKM's brand new corduroy breeches are another great product. They come with the same full seat as the knitted breeches, are made from cotton/ spandex, fine ribbed, soft and stretchy corduroy and look much more expensive than they actually are.

I also love the HKM all-weather jackets. They are comparable in quality to the Mountain horse jackets; durable, great looking and multi-functional.

Not many people in the US know that HKM offers a wide range of bridles and leather goods as well.
With many different designs available, usually in black AND brown high quality leather, they have everything from schooling to showing quality, but for a fraction of the price you might pay for bigger brand names!

Although I haven't tried all their products yet, I am very pleased with their overall quality. They are definitely worth their money!
