The eBay Community offers family historians another research tool.  Don't miss out on this valuable, often overlooked, resource!

Click on "Community," scroll down to "eBay Blogs," and click.

  • What is a blog?  Basically, a blog is a message board; a series of comments, or "posts," pertaining to a certain theme, question, photograph, etc.
  • Enter "genealogy" in the search bar and click "Search Blogs."
  • You can also search blog Titles or Members by clicking the arrow beside "Posts."
  • Try other searches, too.  For instance: surnames, places, family history, coat of arms, etc.
  • Don't forget the scrapbookers!  They can offer advice on preservation and where to find supplies!

(Some of the blogs listed will not be specifically for genealogy.  Some members list genealogy as a hobby or profression.)

If you see a blog that interests you, just click on the title.  Once you have read and/or posted comments to the blog, watch the blog for updates by subscribing to the RSS feed or by bookmarking the site.

The Blog I started is called "Mickey's Genealogy Research on eBay."  My posts consist of genealogy items that I stumble across during my own research.  Other categories include research assistance, links, and tips.

eBay member tsa-li has a very active and thorough genealogy blog specializing in German ancestry.

The blog by vintageads4u reminds us to look for family history where we might not expect it...in vintage advertisements!

Click on "Community," scroll down to "Groups," and click.

  • eBay Groups require membership.  Once you have selected a group, click "Join This Group."  Some require approval before reading or posting in the group.
  • Groups have photo albums, calendars, and discussion boards.
  • Use the "Watch Discussion" to quickly access topics that you frequently.
  • Be sure to set your "Preferences" by clicking the link on the left side of the group page, under "Group Controls."
  • Genealogy Corner is an excellent group to join.  The members are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.  New discussion posts everyday!

Don't see a Blog or Group that interests you?  Do you specialize in a particular area of genealogical research?  Want to attract researchers for a specific region or surname?

Start your own Blog or Group!

  • NOTE:  To start an ebay group, you must have a feedback rating of at least 50 and have been a registered user of eBay for a minimum of 90 days.

What are you waiting for?  Start blogging!

Read my blog and other guides for more tips, resources, and items I stumble across during my own research.  If you have a suggestion or comment for my guides, please post it on my blog.  I am always pleased with feedback!
