I have bought several different gps units and found the Garmin model to be most dependable and easiest to use without alot of studing. Just plug and go. While they have a multitude of models with different bells, I will talk about just the lower end units for the budget-minded. The 255 model tells you the name of the street to turn on. I found that you might become annoyed at listening to all the turns to make and want to turn down the volume so for $70.00 less the 205 model performs all the same functions but less the street name. Just give a quick glance at the top of the screen and it tells you the name of the street that you are going to turn on next. Something for your consideration. I paid $125.00 for one at Office D_pot a while back. Not a bad price for what I use it for.
The bad side to Garmin (and other I expect) is that it doesnt come with a USB cable to use the download features. Wally world wants $15.00 but I bought one on Ebay for $5.00 including shipping that works just fine. If you want a new map update, its long to download or $10. from Garmin for the disc sent to you. Software downloads are done on computer. You can also change the vehicle ID symbol to your liking. I havent tried to do POI,s yet as custom ones are from outsourced vendors and usually seem to cost extra.Their support is terrible from my experience but so are most phone support centers these days so its not just Garmin. If your on a tight budget (who isn't) then the 205 model should work fine for you. Just remember, All units, no matter who makes it, are going to be incorrect from time to time, so dont expect complete accuracy. Its the mapping software usually and there are only a few different vendors suppling the maps so all units posses this anomilie.
I thought these would be great for finding your way in a strange town but after playing with them, I use it for sunday country drives, loading all the garage sale locations on sat. morning and heading out, you can even locate a nearby resturaunt or shopping center when your out. The uses seem endless, so learn to enjoy yours in whatever endeavers.
If you have any questions that I might be able to help you with, feel free to ask.
