MAKE YOUR BED!
Info to a fellow Florida grower (sandy soil) - I should have mentioned they prefer full sun, but this may also mean watering more frequently. I had some in partial sun last year and only grew 3ft tall with little flowers. The plants in full sun were 4ft+ with much larger flowers. Poppies are more native to north - example Canada...they have peat bogs...much of the the soil is a mix of peat & compost. Since we don't have the same soil here we must make our own. Just till approx. 3part manure/ 2part peat/ 1part perlite into the first 4" of earth and add top layer 1/2inch of peat for seeds to grow into. This keeps the small seedlings from dying in early growth due to dampening off. Keep peat layer moist until you see sprouts then allow it to dry out before watering...this forces the small seedlings to send roots deep into the earth in search of water.
