Start with a good haircut. I had been seeing the same hairstylist for years, but a trip to the drop in salon at my local mall really updated my look. I have a new style that's wash and wear, and still interesting.
I had not purchased jeans anywhere except for resale stores for years, so I was always a little behind the fashion. I took some of my Ebay income and bought some low rise Calvin Kleins that I pair with a long T shirt. Quite an update.
I made peace with my upper arms, and purchased some baby doll t shirts in funky colors. Paired with a hoodie, it's a perfect look for the kid's football practice, without looking frumpy.
Slip on shoes and sandals replaced my dime store sneakers, instantly making my feet a fashion attraction, rather than a disaster! Come the cool weather, I'm getting some funky boots!
Belts and scarves are a fun way to take a dull outfit to another level. Scarves as belts are especially trendy.
Buy a coat that you love for the winter months. I got a fake fur trimmed one that I feel like a princess in. Just stay away from the extremely tight or short ones unless you have the figure for it. Plenty of designers, like J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Polo, Liz Claiborne and Talbot's, make lovely clothes for our age range.
Whenever possible, I buy lined slacks, skirts, jackets, and dresses. More comfort, less pantylines, and fewer belly bumps to show through. Sometimes good quality used clothing is better than cheap new stuff. Just stay away from the ancient stuff.
When you look good, you feel good, so enjoy!
