Halloween has become very popular with adults ever since the late 70's.  Going to a Halloween Party or Masquerade Party & want to win a prize?  Hotels & Clubs usually have much sought after Prizes ranging from large amounts of Cash to Gift Certificates and more.

If you're creative or are willing to pay some one a large sum of money, you can put together some very unique creations of your own.  Don't have the time or patience to go through fittings, etc?  Here are sources for quality costumes not only for Halloween but for any occasion.

Rubies is one of the largest & oldest costumers.  Their costumes range from infants to adults. Prices range from very reasonable to very, very costly.  If you are looking for real quality and are willing to part with $150 or more, Rubies Regency Collection has the best quality material ranging from silks, velvets, tapestries and satins.  They also have a showroom/store in Queens, NY, which is open to the general public.

LaMendola is out of Los Angeles & many of the better costumers carry their line.  LaMendola does not sell to the general public. Their costumes are also high quality and even their childrens' costumes run well over $100.

Fairly new is Leg Avenue.  Their costumes are targeted towards teenagers and adults. Prices start around $50 & up.  Their line is unique and saucy.

Spencer's (yes, Spencer's Gifts found in nearly every single mall in the US) carries few costumes but a variety of wigs & accessories.  Spencer's prices range from $25 & up.

One of the best places to find quality costumes year round is at Fun 'N Ghoul located in East Rutherford, NJ.  For the past 3 years, they've set up shop at StateFair's site in Belleville, NJ.  The owner, Cliff & his partner, Jerry are friendly, knowledgeable & very helpful.  If they don't have something, they are willing to order it for you.  They handle both rentals & sales.  They also sell discontinued rentals for fair prices.

NYC has a variety of costume shops as well.  Unfortunately most of them do not sell to the general public.

PartyCity is one of the largest places for costumes but do not always stock better quality costumes.  They do have a good line of wigs, masks & accessories.
