Here are a few of my favourite books that have been made into some of my favourite movies. A bit of a variety ... some are profound ... some just a great story that will remain with me always. Perhaps you'll find some of yours here too!
I've read thousands of books and watched thousands of movies. In my humble opinion, if you've read the book first, it isn't too often that a great book successfully translates into a great movie.
A handful (from hundreds that I cherish!) and in no particular order:
To Kill A Mockingbird (Authored by Harper Lee) Film 1962 starring Gregory Peck and Mary Badham
A Tale Of Two Cities (Authored by Charles Dickens) A tie here! 2 Film favourites: 1935 version starring Ronald Colman and 1958 version starring Dirk Bogarde
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (Authored by Ken Kesey) Film 1975 starring Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher
Forrest Gump (Authored by Winston Groom) Film 1994 starring Tom Hanks and Sally Field
The Fixer (Authored by Bernard Malamud) Film 1968 starring Alan Bates and Dirk Bogarde
The Collector (Authored by John Fowles) Film 1965 starring Samantha Eggar and Terence Stamp
Fried Green Tomatoes (... At The Whistle Stop Cafe, Authored by Fannie Flagg) Film 1991 starring Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy
Great Expectations (Authored by Charles Dickens) Film 1946 starring John Mills, Alec Guinness and Jean Simmons
Hamlet (Authored by William Shakespeare) Film 1996 starring Kenneth Branagh and Kate Winslet
The Shawshank Redemption (Short story Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption authored by Stephen King) Film 1994 starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman
The L-Shaped Room (Authored by Lynne Reid Banks) Film 1962 starring Leslie Caron and Tom Bell
The Manchurian Candidate (Authored by Richard Condon) Film 1962 starring Frank Sinatra, Angela Lansbury (one of THE most frightening screen Moms ever) and Laurence Harvey
The Other (Authored by Tom Tryon) Film 1972 starring Uta Hagen and Diana Muldaur
and ... I know it's not a movie BUT the best book I've read that was turned into a TV series:
Homicide: A Year On The Killing Streets (Authored by David Simon) TV series Homicide Life On The Street 1993-1999
