Hi, my name is Bob or eBay ID name nazca_trader. I want to say a few words about collecting GMP diecast 1:18 McLarens. The other day I saw a seller here on eBay who listed the M8B he was listing as 1 of 2004, very Rare. The Rare part grabs your eye doesn’t it? Well it wasn’t all that rare and it was number 1 out of 2004. This claim from the seller is why I wrote this review. GMP provides a plastic badge with every McLaren with GMP’s logo on the obverse or front of the badge. On the back of this badge is the number of models that were produced or just some logo about the model with no number. The number usually says 1 of 2004 or however many were produced. The number 1 means that, that model is just 1 model of 2004 produced. NOT, I repeat NOT model number 1 of 2004 produced. The number you are looking for in under the car. Turn it over and there is a molded number on the chassis. That is the serial number you want. So beware of the seller that says it is 1 of 2004. Ask that seller what the chassis serial number is. The GMP McLaren is not a fake. (I have never even heard of a fake GMP diecast). It is the chassis number that tells you what number that M8 is. Now a short few words about which McLarens are the most desirous to collect. The M8A is the most collectable. Especially if it is Bruce McLaren as the driver. In fact any of the team McLarens are the most sot after and if Bruce McLaren is the driver then that is the number one to collect. In the past year M8A’s then M8D’s have been the collectable to seek. Even if the M8A seems to be higher in price, it is worth it. If it is an M8A with Bruce as the driver then go for it. I hope this helps you in deciding what price to bid with.
