This toy was made in 1989. It's perhaps the 2nd biggest GI JOE toy on the market.

Sometime in 1985-1986, Hasbro released the USS Flagg. The 7" in length that can hold a large sum of airplanes and
seemed like the ultimate GI JOE toy.

The Defiant headquarters was the 1st line of space adventures that included 2 drivers: Hard Top & Payload.
each driver had a specific role in this mobile HQ. Hard Top's role in this mobile base was to drive the ground vehicle,
while payload's role was to navigate the spaceships that came with the HQ.

Respectively this toy was priced for $99 US dollars from 1989 til 1992 at Toys R Us.

I bought my HQ sometime early 1990 and it was the 1st Gi joe base I ever bought. I remember vividly deciding what to buy that Christmas... a $55 dollar Ninja Gaiden 2 or the Defiant. As I found the base more priceless than the game. so 16 years later Im still happy to make that decision worth while since the NES cartridge that I wanted to buy is now around .50 cents.

2006:
Finding the right DEFIANT is tricky and tough since now it's rare to find a 90% or better condition of the whole set. Like the USS FLAGG, Defiant met its fate as having pieces lost or broken in the gradual process of time. I read somewhere on the net that a NEW BOX version of defiant is worth $800-900 depending the conditions. A mediocre set with missing pieces and drivers along with deteriorations would  range from $5.00 to $200.   In addition to it's pricing the weight and dimension of the item itself is charged heavily if using USPS and would cost from around $100-110. The weight of the Defiant set can be considered the equivalence of a television set.

I was originally going to sell my Defiant for my college tuition, but after noticing the offers I was given ($150-$370), I decided not to sell this rarity. I'm very fortunate to have a tendency of maintaining my collectibles in near perfect condition and I plan to keep this toy for 15 years.

The only piece im missing in my Defiant is a black ladder that was located on the right side of the ground mobile base. The conditions of the 2 drivers are clean and unchanged. Also I'd like to mention that my Defiant is slightly modified since I added flashlights to fit with the HQ along with a set of Contra soldier lookalikes and some GI JOE space brigade figures to acompany Payload's ships and a painted Admiral Keel Haul possessing a resemblance to Admiral Global (Robotech: Macross Saga)

And in Taxan's GI JOE for NES on the password option screen you will be able to see a NES animation of the DEFIANT HQ!!
