There are many ways manufacturers make furniture. Solid wood claims must mean it is fully wood without particle, mdf or veneers. Make sure when "solid wood" is claimed, they are referring to the entire product and not just an inclusion of  some solid wood. Look carefully at the ad and email if unsure.

Particle board is wood chips and glue. This is used a lot in furniture because it keeps the costs lower and more affordable. This can be used in furniture in a good way and also in a low quality way. Try to see where the particle is being used. If it is in the inner compartments for extra support or on the backside, it is probably a decent piece of furniture. If, however, it is made mostly of particle board, it is not as durable.

MDF is a fiberboard made of wood fibers. This is used for backs and fillers in furniture.

Veneers are both wood and plastic. This can be flat, thin sheets that are seen on the top and front of furniture. They are real wood with the wood grain and most likely have a particle base underneath. Furniture can be very nice with the use of veneers or can look cheap. Study the product description being purchased. The plastic veneer are thin sheets with a "photo finish" of wood grain. It is a large picture of woodgrain that is imprinted onto the plastic-like wood veneer.

Sometimes, sellers are not sure what they are detailing or use terms that may not describe fully the product being sold. Ask before the sale and that will save you headaches after the purchase.
