Full Metal Alchemist follows the story of the Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse. It is set in the early 20th century in an alternate universe where alchemy is the accepted science. Alchemy is ruled by the concept of equal exchange.  The main characters learn the hard way that the rule isn't always what you think it can mean.  Edward and Alphonse both lose something attempting a forbidden kind of Alchemy. Edward wears an automail arm and leg, while his brother Al has his soul affixed to a body of armor. The two meet up with a state alchemist who leads them on their way.


 This series is full of comedy and serious situations. One of the truly wonderful things about this series is how it ties together. Each character you meet plays a role in the story and the plot twists are amazing. For every action the characters take you can see the real world consequences.  This series is truly enchanting. The characters are lovable and well rounded.  Though the series is only 51 episodes, it has spawned several spin-off OVA's and a movie.  The manga is still ongoing.  I highly recommend this series to those who enjoy a good fantasy story and like to see a well rounded story.
