Love these little dolls! Frozen Charlottes have similar characteristics, but many personalities!
- All are stiff legged. Some have arms straight down, on sides of body; some have arms bent at elbows; some even have one arm crossed on the body.
- NONE are figurines or mini statues.
- Charlottes are usually nude but can have shoes, socks, and garters.
- There are a number of hair styles, including Flat Top, Coverd Wagon and Alice. Covered Wagon is usually black and parted in the middle with ringlet style curls framing the back of the head. Alice is usually blond and curly. Flat Top is seen in both black and blond hair, has a flat top hair style with curls in back.
- Some Charlottes have bonnets.
- All are molded: some are bisque and some are fired further.
- Charlottes with straight arms were often given as party favors at little girl's tea parties and were used at the parties to stir the sugar in tea.
- Tiny Charlottes could be used during Church services to keep little girls quietly playing and sometimes came in sets of 4 or 5 in tiny leather cases.
- There are reproductions out there.
- There are also new Charlottes that are original designs.
I see many figurines or other dolls with movable parts being sold on ebay as Frozen Charlottes, but these are not Charlottes. If the 'Charlotte' has a molded, painted coat or dress or other clothing, it is not a Charlotte. Just because a figurine is stiff legged, it does not mean that it is a Charlotte. If the 'Charlotte' has movable legs or arms, it is not a Charlotte.
