When stopping a front wheel drive automatic transmission automobile on snow and ice put the gear shifter in neutral and slowly apply the brake until the vehicle stops. This is especially important when the vehicle is first started and running at a high RPM during warm-up. If driving a manual transmission vehicle simply depress the clutch and the brake at the same time.
