I get alot of email from ebay customers. Most are the same so I figured I would answer some of the most frequently asked questions. Everyone has a different knowledge of motorcycles, seats and leather. Hope this will help.
Q. Seat Pans?
A. The seat pan is what the leather/vinyl/covering is attached to and the seat pan is either metal, plastic or composite and is attached to the frame of the Bike. Seat Pans can set flush with the bike or set off the bike. To connect the pan to the bike you can weld the pan to the frame or use bungs and a t-bar with springs or without springs to make the connection. All available on ebay. Seat Pans come in different sizes and shapes, it will depend on your type of motorcycle and personal taste to decide what fits. With a little fabrication you can make anything work but do you want to do fabrication? Measure your bikes seat area or cut out a cardboard size seat that would work on your bike and then go with that size. We connect our leater or vinyl to all of our pans with steel or aluminium rivets.
Q. Other Seat Pans?
A. Yes we do cover any size or type of seat pan. Email us and we can get you squared away. The problem we have run into on ebay is with our most popular auction. Our most popular auction is the Design Your Own Seat Auction. This auction allows customers to design their own seat and we make it. The auction is for our stock seat pan and the issue is that the winners will pay for the auction and then send us a seat pan. We cant do this. So Im putting this in here to let everyone know. Contact us with seat pan questions.
Q. Seat Parts?
A. We have some parts and are in the process of setting up a manufacturing process for pans and seat parts. This should be completed by the end of summer. We want to be the one stop shop for Motorcycle seat parts.
Q. Leather Designs?
A. Send us a design or we will help draw and design one for you. We do all of the hand tooling in house. Every seat is one off. Let us know if you have a design. Its difficult to come up with new ideas or know what people want to buy. The leather is 2-5 oz leather like two quarters in thickness. The designs are carved with a leather swivel knife and then shaded, tooled and dyed.
Q. Limits on Designs?
A. No. We dont put any limits on our customers designs. We arent hear to judge. We are here to give the customer what they want. This doesnt mean ebay doesnt have limits. Some items cannot be posted or shown on ebay. The only limit that Birdmans has is MC designs. We do produce seats and leather work for Motorcycle Clubs (MCs) world wide and will only produce them with the permission of the MC members and proof of membership. This is to avoid copyright issues as well as producing club colors and logos for people who do not understand the bylaws of MCs.
Q. Do we take orders?
A. Yes. We try to be non commercial but we have to go with our demand. Our website is on the way contact us and keep checking it will be up soon. We tried to avoid the modern world but we figured we got to do what we got to do and as long as we stay loyal to our style and our way of doing the actual product then we were okay. Coming to ebay was a big move for us. Just ask.
Q. Leather Care and Maintenance?
A. All leather wears. It breaks in and the dyes will change with wear and tear. It will maintain its overall appearance however. Leather takes time to dry and will continue to dry after being wet for a pretty good while. So dont panic if your seat gets wet and appears wet for awhile. Its not vinyl. Your not getting a vinyl seat. We use Super Shene to protect our seats and advice frequent use of Super Shene on the seats. Once every couple weeks. This will keep the seat waterproof and maintain its appearance.
Q. Seat repair?
A. We have a particular style of seat. We do not normally repair other peoples seats or repair stock seats. I dont mind giving advice though.
Q. Do we do pillion seats, back rests pads for sissy bars and tool bags for bikes?
A. Yes. We can do and have done numerous sets for people in their own design and themes. Let us know if you have an idea of what you might want.
Q. Are the seats comfortable?
A. Yes. I ride one on my two HDs and have friends that ride them as well. This question is like are Ape Hangers comfortable? I ride apes and love them, for the first 100 miles then they suck. Its personal preference really. I can say though that the seats are comfortable to ride. They dont get nearly as hot and the air flow is much better. Less sweat and heat.
