ADULT OR TEEN CHENILLE PONCHO MACHINE KNIT

YARN: 1 strand CHENILLE SAND OR OFF WHITE

2 strands 2/17 Team Amilure Acrylic or any yarn that gets the gauge.

TENSION 10. Gauge: 6.5 stitches 8 rows.

Cast-on 130 stitches with 2 strands of 2/17 Tension 10. Casting on with the acrylic is easier than trying to cast on with the Chenille, as the Chenille (cotton) didn’t have enough stretch or give to cast on well.

Knit 10 rows.

Transfer every other needle to the next needle for a picot edge. Put all needles into work position. Remove 2/17 thread and put in 1 strand of cotton Chenille

Tension 10 counter back to 0. Knit 1 row.

You might need to add the cast on comb into the picot holes and edge weights.

Knit the next row carefully making sure all needles knit.

Knit to row 148, mark row with another color of yarn in end needle one side.

Knit to row 252 and mark row, same as above on the same side.

Knit to row 400.

Remove the chenille yarn.

Knit 1 row with 2/17 yarn, 2 strands.

Transfer every other needle.

Knit 9 rows. Bind off. Hem .

Make another piece the same.

The place that is marked will be the neck opening.

Matching pieces with the marked row, seam up to the mark on both ends leaving the center open for the neck. Or sew on buttons leaving open between buttons.

For a neck edge either before or after seaming. Place one side of the neck opening (rows), wrong side facing, back up on the knitting machine. (rows between center markings)

Pull out needles to D to prevent chenille from breaking. Knit one row with the 2/17 acrylic yarn.

Knit neck band in chenille or 2/17 yarn, either stockinet or Set up for ribbing and rib a neck band about 20 rows. I used the Garter Carriage, Tension 10. Bind off with 2/17 yarn, and hem. Steam Press

Add fringe if wanted.

Machine knit fringe: Cast-on 3 needles, skip 6 needles, put one needle in work. Knit on these needles desired length. For a design, tuck on the center stitch of the 3 stitches. Bind off the 3 stitches, drop the one stitch for loop fringe.

Knitting with the 2/17 where added is to prevent the chenille from breaking in hard to knit places. 3 strands of 2/24 or 1/12 or 2 strands 2/17 will work to knit poncho
