We currently have more than 200,000 troops in overseas theaters where they are subjected to sub zero wind chills during the winter. People are glad to help our troops if they know what they can do. If you can knit or crochet, please consider making helmet liners for our troops. Please use 100% wool (it's warmer than acrylic) and check gauge. If they do not fit properly, they will not be sent to our troops, because they could obstruct their vision.
I use Cascade Super Wash because I got to thinking one day. Service men & women don't really think about hand washing and laying flat 100% wool. They would more likely throw their helmet liner in with everything else and find a felted liner in their laundry. So, that being said, I suggest to my customers to make them out of Super Wash so that they don't have to do anything special. The Super Wash costs a bit more, but I believe it to be worth it so that these men and women don't have to worry about special washing instructions. They have enough to worry about.
For instructions and free download patterns for either knitting or crocheting go to: http://www.geocities.com/helmetliner/
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
