Monopoly is one of the best-selling board games in the world, and it comes in a variety of different editions. The most luxureous edition is widely considered to be the Franklin Mint Monopoly game, produced since 1991 by the Franklin Mint (though production and availability of new sets has been limited since 2005). This game originally sold for $595 and featured attractive components such as:
- A deluxe 22x22-inch hardwood game board with plush green felt and a built in game drawer to hold the accessory pieces
- Gold-plated hotels and playing tokens
- Silver-plated houses
- A leather real estate portfolio to hold the title deeds and a Rules and History booklet
- Specially printed Monopoly Money, Chance, and Community Chest Cards
Though this set has been in limited production since 2005, it can still be found quite easily on E-Bay. This set makes for a great conversation piece and when paired with its matching display table (hard to find, but well worth it to properly display this collector's item), is also a great piece of furniture.
The problem with a game such as Monopoly is that it there are so many pieces, it's easy to lose or damage one. Fortunately, there are ways to find replacements for these pieces, whether you're looking for replacement money or chance cards. Even if you have a complete set, it never hurts to have some additional pieces on hand like houses or hotels. And if you don't have a Franklin Mint Monopoly set, for just a few dollars you can spice up a standard Monopoly set by purchasing some silver-plated houses or gold-plated hotels. Imagine the look on your friends faces when you not only own Boardwalk and Park Place, but build a gold-plated hotel on those two properties!
