One of the rarer board games in the Franklin Mint series of board games is the Chinese Checkers game. This game was created in conjunction with the Asian Art Museum and the result is a version of this classic game with a great degree of elegance and opulence. The playing field of highly polished brass is embellished with gold and set into an ivory-colored surface complete with a series of Chinese-inspired artwork. The playing field is then set on top of a wooden pedestal featuring six gold-plated dragon heads that create a unique and highly decorative playing experience.
The game comes with a black, hardcover rules booklet that also contains a history of this ancient game. The booklet houses and protects the Certificate of Authenticity, and comes with a gold-colored tassle which can be used as a bookmark (more for decorative purposes since the booklet only has 6 pages).
But perhaps the most interesting aspect of this game is that the playing marbles are authentic gemstones. The marbles consist of Adventurine Quartz, Black Onyx, Blue Lace Agate, Red Jasper, Rose Quartz, and Picture Jasper (shown below). Unfortunately, these playing marbles are fairly small, making them easier to lose, but replacement pieces can sometimes be found on E-Bay.
This set is retired but can be found from time to time on E-Bay.
