For those collecting this series, the key point is assembling a set of FBL (full bell line) coins. The cost in grades MS65 and above place the set beyond the reach of the average collector. However, the grade of MS64 is very attractive and substantially less than the MS65 grade.
It is suggested, due to problems with the FBL designation, that only coins graded by one of the upper tier of the 3rd party grading firms be purchased, even if this means looking at many, many coins over a period of time.
Individuals selling coins not in an upper tier firm slab should have return policies confirmed before bidding as many coins will NOT meet the test of the FBL, although so advertised on eBay.
Remember that assembling a proper set of Franklin halves is not truly difficult, but to do so have patience and remember, a collector assembles a set one coin at a time.
