If I had a nickel for every time I was told how young I look, I'd be a millionaire! As a 47 year old male, I have been told on countless occasions that I don't look a day over 30 which got me to writing this article.
I figured if I can do it, so can you. My secret: EXERCISE. Health benefits of consistent exerscise are endless for individulas of all ages. Moderate daily exercise will improve health in the following ways:1)Help control weight. 2)Reduce the risk of premature death from heart disease. 3)Reduce the risk of diabetes. 4)Decrease high blood pressure or reduce the risk of developing it. 5)Help older adults gain strength, fight osteoporosis, and enhance ability to be active without fear of falling. 6)Help maintain proper cholesterol levels.
These reasons and more have motivated thousands of adults maintain an active lifestyle. The loss of strength and stamina attributed to aging is in part caused by reduced physical activity. By age 75, about one in three men and one in two women do not engage in physical activity.
Research has shown that an active person who maintains a healthy diet will reduce the risk of developing or dying from some of the leading causes of illness and death. With this information, adults are aware of the benefits of regular activity, but few are jumping at the opportunity to begin their active lifestyles.
It is a challenge to get moving because physical activity is less a part of life today. Fewer jobs require exertion. We have become a mechanically mobile society, relying on machines rather than muscle to get around.
Adults can obtain health benefits with moderate physical activity. If you are interested in improving your overall conditioning, I recommend that you should get at least 30 minutes of moderately intense activity on all or most days of the week. Examples of moderate activity include brisk walking, cycling, swimming, doing home repairs or yard work. If you cannot excercise 30 minutes at one time, shorter amounts of active time two or three times a day can greatly improve health and keep you looking young forever!
