Several months ago, I decided to purchase several signed record albums on eBay - the information seemed reasonable enough, and I thought they would make a welcome addition to the rec room in my new home. I was able to bid successfully for several of these items, and was very happy with the purchases. However within days of the purchases, I received several emails to my eBay address from other eBay members, calling me in so many words, an idiot for buying such clear fakes! When I contacted eBay about these unsolicited letters, I was told that they would make a thorough investigation, but, in order to protect member's privacy, I would never be told the results of their inquiry! "TO PROTECT MEMBERS' PRIVACY"????? What about protecting BUYER'S safety on eBay's website? What about protecting their own integrity and reputation??? Clearly the most important aspects of maintaining a reputable exchange site such as this is, is to assure the consumer's confidence in the integrity of the product. Also, if the original seller was in fact honest, isn't his reputation completely smeared by eBay's refusal to make its findings known? Who would buy from him again under these circumstances? Whose "privacy" are they protecting? Certainly not mine! And if the seller is an honest one, certainly not his!! Why is it that they refuse to divulge the results of their "thorough investigation?" My guess is, they are doing nothing with my complaint except trying to hush me with this baloney about "members' privacy" so that I will have no clue whether my purchases are authentic or not. There is no way that I will ever make a purchase on eBay again.
