In a typical Trout season, most of the best fishing occurs during the Spring,Early Summer, and when Summer is fading and changing to Fall. Not suprising, this is when the best Hatches occur and Trout are feeding heavily on those Hatches. Does that mean you should stop fishing in the middle of Summer?? NO!! While most Anglers know that it is at this time that Terrestrial Patterns like Hoppers, Ants, and similar Patterns will produce, they often do not know that Trout change some habits at this time. 1 is they do not like high water temps or low oxygen levels and often move into much faster water. Try fishing faster ripples and runs at this time.2 they become more wary during the day so fish your patterns tight to the banks as they often hide in undercut banks for shade or twitch your fly close to logjams as they provide shade and usually provide faster water and higher oxygen. 3 try fishing at night. Get to the stream early to get used to the area to check for deep holes, sand traps and other hazards to be safe, then fish Mouse patterns, Big Streamers and Big Dry Flies or even Poppers and Gurglers, make the fly splash and make alot of sound. Last of all if fishing in the day is your main choice, remember using different patterns Trout are not used to seeing, like Cracklebacks, Skunks, and others which can be fished wet or dry.Just changing you typical dry fly fishing can lead to just as much action when there is a hatch as well as when there is not. I hope you found this helpful. Tight Lines and Safe Wading!!
