Hmmm, I have issued with in certain lamp problems. Well, I have seen many times when people do mistakeability about using old model energy saving fluorescent lamps like 34 watt, 4' foot (48" inches), T-12 bulb. I totally surprised that lamp was not good enough to perform lighting. Since these lamp introduced in late 1970's by whom owned laboratories. Hey folk please keep the mind, this is your lamp strategy test but I'm challenging you see if you get this right from my testimonial (if, its true, please, vote for me by 'yes'). Okay, are you ready?... Here is.....Study carefully.....
Start with caring performance using T-12, 34 watt, 4' foot lamp. Lamp likes to keeping real warmer air on bulb wall (my temperature like 74 F degrees for best describe brightness but never closer to A/C vents). For the best result at 77 F degrees for normal brightness, again, keeping away from A/C (I'll tells you why?). Most manufacturers for those lamp can reliable at 60 F degrees and the averaging of lamp life up to 20,000 hours in which they tested in 4 hours "On" mode and 1 hours "Off" mode cycling progress (some people said that does not live long enough). This lamp requires in electromagnetic rapid-start ballast only (can be used in electronics ballast otherwise be specify on ballast label where can be meet standardized electrical code which follows cerfitied CSA, UL, etc...). Please check those if you got ones of listed. Also, do not uses in electronics dimming ballast in which lamp will not performs). It can be excellence at your work place, public school, small business porportion, etc... In designing for this lamp, you must be using switches manually in run for couple hours per daily. Be avoid in shortest period of time in usage ( per daily), lamp life may reducing in during operates. For example: If you have a classes in 15 mintues when you done then turned off and left out of the room. When you decided to come back in the same room then turned back on in same day as well repeatly in daily. This effect creates sparky cathode filament in which labor causing to greater losses amount of lamp life while building up with blackened on the ended of tube. Of course, do not uses with motion sensor (or electric eyes) while supplied with these lamps in therefore results may be much greater losses lamp life. Keep that mind, these lamps are sensitivity during in operates life. You may uses in electronic timer but avoid setting shorter amount of time in daily.
Now, I'll tells why, you should never place your lamp closer to A/C (air-conditioning). Because of this bulb wall makes cooling off. Light output become losses in some can perform slightly shimming effect (called a "headache lamp"). Inside of fluorescent lamp where electron flowing through tube, when bulb wall temperature is decreasing in which the electron will shrinks therefore reducing light output. In wherelses, this lamp life will performs in shorten. When you flipping the switch on in next day within your room temperature has been fallen meanwhile your lamp will erratics start-up with a sign of swirling (called a "snaking") inside of bulb wall (abnormally) or other effect will not starts up with sign of glowing cathode both ended of tube. It may takes long time to warm-up lamp. However, you should not be using in a commerical refrigerator as well, it will effects lamp life prohibitability. People can be seen when lamp behavior shown of sign with poor effect (slightly flickering or shimming, also dimming output) in which they can get headache, feeling tired, and being bore out of life (meaning of uncomfortable). They like to kills one of those bulb (seriously folk!). It should be good comfortable lamp in airtight fixture with a diffuser drop-in ceiling, wrapping around light fixture (be sure secured property). Again, avoids to place nearby A/C venting or a unit. Of course, do not uses in garage lighting fixture (In some cases, lamp will perform in shorten life) as well as outdoor lighting fixture (some issues they may not work during in cold temperature). Another thing, these lamps were very sensitive by air temperature stability (thereby changing temperature when no longer good performs initialize lumen or light output in extended period time). Example: when you placing lamp near A/C for long period time, then you will decides to keep away from it in which allows to reuse these lamp in which being no longer goes back normal initialize lumen. Otherwise, you will needs to replace with an exist lamp. If there is a problem with these lamps, try using a 4 feet fluorescent jacket or guarding tube come with both end caps (what this does, it allow airtight or air blocker from flourescent bulb wall and kept in warm without heat losses). Available in locally hardware store in which sold about 2 or 3 bucks a piece. Notice that units must be used in high profile fluorescent lampholder or normal size lampholder in which it has to be little over 1-1/4 inches of tipped lampholder to channel flat-bedded or mounted bracket because of jacket lamp shown over-sized end caps were sleeved into outer jacket tube were pressurized against channel (when over-pressurize will breaks lamp and lampholder). Also, low profile fluorescent lampholder does not fit most likely. But, if you have a slide-in or snap-in fluorescent lampholder were installed, it should be fine but some cases may fallen lamp. Be sure secures as well as maintainence into lampholder (fully seated as possible).
Additionally notes: Energy Saver Fluorescent Lamp such as 34 watt, T-12, 4' foot (48" inches) or Energy Saver "Plus" 32 watt, T-12, 4' foot (48" inches), bi-pins lamps. Both lamps are should not used in-store commerical refrigerator open faced type or enclosed case with doors. Because it may effectively light output and ballast may overheats as well with shorten life. Same way when you have been installed with jacket lamp. If you think owner or repairman doing faultly, it needed be replace as soon as possible with standard or original wattage lamp such as 40 watt, T-12 or T-10 lamp with jacket sleeved lamp and caps (as recommended). However, it not good idea replaced with 32 watt, T-8, 4' foot (48" inches) into 40 watt lamp with ballast, perhaps may damage ballast or shorten life therefore these lamp are designed in electronics ballast only. Otherwise, you need to find the manufacturer name plated with UL listed on it or Warning (Caution) labeled nereby lampholder in somewhere refrigerator body to determined what was the original lamp type. To be sure come with original jacket sleeve lamp and lamp caps, if it is worn at period time and needed be replace it. Again available at local hardware store or electrical contractor, if you still can't find one and need to look for manufacturers plated or sticker on it (I think, it should have information on it that you can call it to order parts for it).
So, what kind ballast that you should using for these lamp? There is some availables. Whether you can using a standard wattage electromagnetic (sometime called a magnetic) rapid-start ballast (2 lamps only), energy saving (sometime called a watt reducing) rapid-start ballast (1,2, or 3 lamps), and electronic rapid-start ballasts (be specify wattage lamp can be used). Not be using in electronic dimming ballast in which they do not performs as well. Single standard wattage lamp rapid-start ballast in results may shortening lamp life insignificant. A self-adjusting level brightness selector dimming ballast (can be uses in room control photocell activator or electric eyes) or hand control dimmer in which may reduces their lamp life or does not performs. Do not confusing any ballast by using these lamp in which it will exhausts lamp life (quickly til' burnt-out) or lamp failure, damaging lamp, or other personal injury occurs. So, please take your time and read every ballasts that you brought in some wherelses with original ballast printed (must have a specification lamp operates). If you don't know which lamp operating, look-up lamp catalog or websites. Somewhat they'll explains to you. Information changed in therefore statement about pre-heated magnatic ballast (equippment may requires starter) using with energy saving lamp in which occurs overheating ballast and lamp life shown insignificantly. However for this lamp draws high-end current into magnetic ballasts in results may shorten ballast life. Otherwise, pre-heated magnetic ballast must be requires standard wattage lamp only (see accordling to complete lists on ballast original printed). Also, any product contain a shop-lite or economy fluorescent lamp such as 25 watt, 4' feet will not allows equipped with energy saving rapid-start magnetic ballasts in results may shown between bulb and ballast insignificantly. It should be equippment with electronics ballasts but read accordling to complete lists ballast printed. Also, lamp printed, too.
Finally, sign of lamp getting worn-out or soon to be burned out. One thing when you flipped the light switch on in next time to come to your room. Notice you will sees in some fluorescent lamps are lighting up with a swirling tube (sometime there was blackening at ended of tube where sign will be sooner as burning out). What causes to this lamp when you seen quite blackening or slightly blackening ended lamp tube in every time you flipped the light switch on and off, notice that shown there was sparkly blue or purplish to greenish at ended of tube, which is striked off cathode filament allowing create to blacken inside tube where meet phosphor on the bulb wall. Now, what does not lighting up or will not starting up, sign of no glowing ended tube (it means filament has been broken either 1 or both ended or ballast could be dead or has been disconnected circuit) and if sign of glowing ended tube with two different colour (it means lamp has been burning out). However, when comes to burned out lamp, please replacing lamp as soon as possible. Some ballast will continues making sound "humming" and produces heat built-up, in which result may shorten life. Others may be carrying electricity when lamp being burnt-out or lamp failure (Yeah, I know it is not freedom world, trusts me). If you have 2 lamps ballast, replacing both lamp at same time in best results. Other options, when ballast aged (found in weaken light output by group in one ballast control) which causes inside of ballast with capacitor (stored electrically charges) has been weaken or dried out or sometimes thermal switch may wearing out as sooner if thermal switch may frequecent off and on repeatly in every couple minutes.You may in up with wrong lamp or it needed be replace ballast.
Order pack or case, which is better??? Well, I certaining both because when you buy one tube during shipping which it will breaks as long, how damages the lamp or they can no longer perform lamp. It should be required insurance which depends on post office (or seller) has offer. As alway labeled on "Fragile" on case of package, that way they can be alert and should be handle with care. Usually come with 10 bulbs pack (of case) or 24 bulbs per case (sometimes 30 bulbs per case). Doubt or not, 50/50 chances, it could be more than one bulbs get break during shipment. Evenly just small crack of the bulb, which causes leakage of mercury gas and somewhat can perform poorly light output, snaker so bad (sign of heavily swirley effect), or blinker constantly effect. If 2 lamps but one lamp won't light up (has no blackened at ended of tube) and other light up with bright but different noticed compare to one burn out (with blackened at ended tube) and other good lamps. It should be replaced other new lamp as well, if you don't otherwise ballast may be overheat and link to shorten life.
When comes to my mind, how will to have problem with the lamp so many years. Generally, I found out what causes which I have no idea how or what wrong with these lamp performance. My understand is like my normal person experiences with better lamp performs. It is like a weird idea, how I got that into with lighting situation when to fix them the problems. Usually, I seen many people or just a person who doesn't know what you supposed to replace with the lamp. Funny lamp is not a good thing which happen perform incorrectly porportion and energy efficient is also flout play. What I do know... Come to my mind and saying that lamp is alway needs to be a good brightness as highly energy efficient, clean flickerless, and nothing behave under lamp operation as normally. Just trusted you guy out there, I know anything about healthly light or lamp healing. Or could be a god of lighting??? Who knows...
